Grooming Consent & Liability Waiver

These are the terms you accept when you book, and the same terms you sign on paper at your first appointment. They stay valid for future appointments unless you revoke them in writing or we issue an updated version.

1. Parties and authority

This agreement is between Exotic Pet Café (“the Salon”) and the person signing (“the Owner”). The Owner warrants that they own the pet or are fully authorised by the owner to make decisions about it, including consenting to veterinary treatment and accepting these terms. The Owner remains liable under this agreement whoever brings the pet in or collects it.

2. Accuracy of what you have told us

The Owner warrants that everything disclosed — health, medication, parasites, bite history and behaviour — is complete, current and accurate. Non-disclosure or misstatement of any material fact is a breach of this agreement and voids every release and limitation the Salon would otherwise rely on being read in the Owner’s favour.

3. Bite history and injury to people or animals

If the pet bites, scratches or injures any person, any other animal, or any third party on or around the premises, the Owner is solely responsible and shall indemnify the Salon, its staff and its other clients in full against all resulting loss, medical costs, legal costs and claims. This applies whether or not a bite history was disclosed, and applies with particular force where it was not.

4. Risks of grooming

The Owner understands that grooming involves handling a live animal with sharp equipment, water and dryers, and may result in cuts, nicks, clipper burn, skin irritation, allergic reaction, stress, aggravation of an existing condition, injury or death — particularly in pets that are elderly, obese, matted, ill, anxious or aggressive. The Owner accepts these risks.

5. Elderly, ill and high-risk pets

Grooming an elderly or unwell pet carries heightened risk, including collapse or death from a condition not previously apparent. The Owner confirms they have considered this and instruct the Salon to proceed. Where the Salon believes a pet is not fit to be groomed it may decline, and an assessment charge may still apply.

6. Matting and shave-down

Severe matting pulls on the skin and cannot safely be brushed out. Matted pets may need to be shaved short. Shaving can reveal or aggravate pre-existing rashes, sores, wounds, haematomas or parasites hidden under the coat, and the skin beneath matting is often already damaged. The Salon is not liable for any condition uncovered, aggravated or caused by necessary dematting or shaving. Matted coats are charged at the de-matting rate.

7. Parasites and contagious conditions

If fleas, ticks, mites, ringworm or any other parasite or contagious condition is found, the pet will be treated at the Owner’s expense before grooming continues, or grooming will be stopped. Where an undisclosed contagious condition results in infection of the premises, equipment or other clients’ animals, the Owner is liable for the cost of decontamination and of treating every animal affected.

8. Temperament, handling and the right to stop

The Salon may use standard humane restraint, muzzles and grooming loops. If a pet becomes aggressive, distressed or unsafe to handle, grooming may be stopped at any point for the safety of the animal and the staff. The full charge for work completed up to that point remains payable, and the Salon may decline to accept that pet in future.

9. Emergency veterinary care and spending authority

If the Salon judges that the pet needs urgent veterinary attention, the Owner authorises the Salon to obtain it, from its own partner veterinarian unless the Owner has named another in writing. All veterinary and transport costs are the Owner’s sole responsibility and are payable on collection, whether or not the Owner could be reached beforehand. The Salon will attempt to contact the Owner and the emergency contact first where time permits.

10. Fees, booking fee and cancellation

A booking fee of ₦5,000 secures the appointment and is deducted from the total on the day. Appointments may be rescheduled once with at least 24 hours’ notice. The booking fee is forfeited for a no-show or a cancellation inside 24 hours. Final prices depend on size, coat condition and the time actually required, and are confirmed on the day. Payment is due in full on collection.

11. Late collection and uncollected pets

Pets must be collected by closing time on the day of the appointment. Pets collected late are charged a holding fee per hour or part hour. A pet not collected within 7 days of the appointment, where the Salon has attempted contact on the number and address given, is treated as abandoned and the Salon may, after a further 7 days’ written notice, rehome or place the pet in alternative care at the Owner’s cost, without prejudice to the fees owed.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Salon, its staff and affiliates are not liable for injury, illness, escape, loss or death of the pet arising during or after grooming, except where gross negligence is proven. Where liability is established, it is limited to the lower of the grooming fee paid or ₦200,000. The Salon is not liable in any circumstances for indirect or consequential loss, sentimental value, replacement of a breeding or show animal, or emotional distress. The Salon does not insure clients’ pets; the Owner is responsible for arranging their own cover if they want more than this.

13. Media and CCTV

The Salon records the grooming and reception areas continuously for the safety of animals and staff. These recordings are kept for the Salon’s own protection and may be used in evidence. Separately, the Owner may give or withhold consent to photographs or video of their pet being used in the Salon’s marketing, at no compensation. Withholding marketing consent does not affect the CCTV recording.

14. Complaints and time limit for claims

Any concern about the condition of a pet on collection must be raised with the Salon before leaving the premises, so it can be inspected and recorded while the facts can still be established. Any other claim must be notified to the Salon in writing within 14 days of the appointment. Claims notified after 14 days are not accepted.

15. Matters outside our control

The Salon is not liable for failure or delay caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including power failure, water or fuel shortage, flooding, fire, civil unrest, curfew, road closure, epidemic or government action.

16. Whole agreement and variation

This document is the entire agreement between the parties. Nothing said in conversation, by phone or on social media varies it. Variations are effective only in writing signed by both parties. If any clause is held unenforceable, the remaining clauses continue in full force.

17. Acceptance and duration

Signing the paper form, or completing and submitting the booking form on this website and confirming by WhatsApp, constitutes acceptance of these terms. This consent remains valid for all future grooming appointments until revoked by the Owner in writing or replaced by an updated version issued by the Salon.

18. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos State.
