Most people leaving a pet somewhere want to know one thing: will they be alright?

Exotic Pet Lodge is a converted house in Lekki, not a kennel block. Rooms with windows and ceiling lights, air conditioning and fans in every room, CCTV throughout, and a vet from Exotic Pet Café on hand. Choose Overnight for a stay, or Day visit to drop off in the morning and collect the same day.

Cats and dogs are boarded in different buildings

This matters more than anything else on this page.

A cat that spends four days listening to dogs it cannot see does not settle, does not eat properly, and goes home stressed. Most boarding puts them down the corridor from each other and hopes for the best.

We don't board them on the same site at all. Cats stay at our Ikate premises, in a dedicated cat room with individual glass-fronted suites — each with a private enclosed cubby to hide in, its own bedding and its own bowls. They can see out. Nothing can reach in. And there isn't a dog in the building.

Dogs stay at the Lodge on Ugochukwu Orji Street, in raised units with slatted flooring so nothing sits in damp, and castors so a unit can be moved rather than a nervous dog being dragged.

Day care — per day

Drop off and collect the same day. For a long day at work, a trip across town, visitors your pet would rather avoid, or a puppy who shouldn't be left alone yet.

• A complimentary bath on stays of 3 nights or more, so your pet comes home clean

On prescription diet, has allergies, or you'd simply rather they stayed on their own food? Send it with them and tell us the routine.

Puppies: please send your puppy's usual food. Changing diet suddenly causes diarrhoea, and settling into a new place is the worst possible time for an upset stomach.

Before your pet can stay

Your pet must be at least 4 months old, and we need to see current vaccination records. One unvaccinated animal puts every other guest at risk, so we don't make exceptions — for day visits either.

All must be up to date in line with your vet's schedule. If your pet is due, book vaccinations or deworming at our clinic before the stay. A pet passport keeps all of it in one place so you're not hunting for paperwork every time.

Booking

A deposit of one night's boarding confirms your dates and comes off your final bill. Cancellation and collection terms are in our Terms of Service.

Where your pet stays

Cats — Ikate. 62A Gbangbala Street, Ikate, Lekki. Same building as our store and clinic.

Dogs, rabbits and birds — the Lodge. 1 Ugochukwu Orji Street, off SPG Road, Lekki. Look for the “Barr Adewale” signage at the beginning of the street; that's us. Gated compound, so ring when you arrive.
